Got a cool guitar using HD pickups?

Hey, y'all -

I just got a guitar built for me by Bill Chapin (www.chapinguitars.com)
that has a couple of tortoise shell Z90s on it. No pictures or
soundclips of it up on his website yet, but they should be there soon.
I thought I'd send you a couple of jpegs for your archives, in case
you're interested. If not, no harm, no foul.

Specs on the guitar: chambered mahogany back, cedar top, flamed maple
bolt-on neck, a mesquite(!) fingerboard. The Z90s are on a Gibson 3-way
switch, and share two knobs for master volume and master tone. The
other two knobs are volume and tone for the Strat middle - the tone
control is pulled up to activate the pickup, or pushed down to take it
out.

The tone of the neck Z90 alone is worth the price of the guitar - it's
HUGE! And the bridge for crunchy rhythm is insane. I wish I could say
the Strat middle pickup is yours, too, but it didn't work out that way -
sorry! The Strat middle plus either or both of the Z90s sounds almost
like a caricature of the biggest Strat-out-of-phase-on-steroids you ever
heard. There is not a weak or boring sound in the whole guitar. It's
not just loud - there is so much information/texture/tone coming thru
the cord.

By the way, I'm using your VP90s on my '56 Reissue Les Paul, and your
Classic Humbuckers, wired Peter-Green-style, on my Guild Starfire IV.
Your pickups really made those guitars come alive. Everything is played
thru Dr. Z amps - either a KT45 for the Chapin and the Guild, or a
Mazerati (not the Maz18 or Maz 38) for the Les Paul. Speakers are
Celestion Vox Blue reissues or Greenback reissues. Style of music is
60s-70s/roots rock (www.fabulousjammies.com - the pictures and
description should be up soon).

So consider me a happy customer, I guess! And keep making cool pickups.
And stop tempting people with that LP Junior!

Henry says:

"I'm really knocked out by my Z-90s! They are powerful and clear, but very warm and rich at the same time. The best combination of warm and clean that I've ever heard."
